Physicians for a Healthy California and University of California Health are extending their research on “The Well-Being of California Women Physicians: Burnout, Career Satisfaction, and Mental Health" through a grant from The Physicians Foundation.
In May 2022, women physicians licensed by the Medical Board of California will be invited to participate in an anonymous online survey and small focus groups. Pre-pandemic data from 2018 will be compared to data obtained this year.
The purpose of this project is to assess different aspects of wellbeing and obtain information on work experiences from women physicians in California, as well as to identify factors that impact wellbeing and career satisfaction. Also, it will provide formal recommendations to health care organizations so they may effectively recruit and retain a diverse group of women physicians through the provision of helpful resources and implementation of effective strategies to reduce burnout, improve career satisfaction, bolster mental health and establish equity.
Small focus groups will be held in summer 2022 to learn more about the factors that impact wellbeing and career satisfaction for diverse women physicians. Participants will also discuss suggestions on what health care organizations can do to better support diverse women physicians.
