Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) has a rich history that started in 1963 as a charitable arm of the California Medical Association, disbursing over $1 million in grants and loans to support future physicians.
Fast forward to today: PHC is proud to have grown into one of California’s leading advocates for improved community health. 2019 brought tremendous growth to our organization, allowing us to expand graduate medical education throughout the state and repay educational loans to physicians and dentists to increase access to care in underserved communities.
“Access to universal health care is an empty promise if patients can’t access timely, affordable and quality care,” said Lupe Alonzo-Diaz, President and CEO of PHC. “To that end, PHC’s programs continue to grow and diversify the physician workforce, invest in the state’s underserved communities and improve California’s public health – all while addressing the social determinants of health. We look forward to our continued work and a productive 2020.”
