2023By Physicians for a Healthy California Health Equity Leadership Summit
Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) is proud of our work to promote health equity and grow California’s physician workforce. In support of those efforts, we recently hosted our Health Equity Leadership Summit, September 14-15, 2023, in San Jose. The summit allowed attendees to engage in in-depth conversations about how physicians, executives and advocates can address and promote health equity in California.
Over 100 guests joined us for the two-day program. Highlights include:
- A discussion between Health Net Chief Health Equity Officer (and PHC Board Member) Pooja Mittal, D.O., and Reggie Tucker-Seeley, Sc.D., about the role of the chief health equity officer in today’s health care organizations
- A panel discussion led by Deena McRae, M.D., Associate Vice President of Academic Health Sciences for University of California Health and four other women physicians of color on the impact of moral injury and burnout faced by women physicians of color
- A session led by Cassandra Pye, president of Lucas Public Affairs, called “Showing up as your authentic self,”-focusing on tools to utilize in your day-to-day life and work
- A training by Equality California on how to communicate and treat LGBTQIA+ patients
- A “Walk With a Doc” walking tour led by Alexis Gaskin, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with Sutter Medical Group, sponsored by the Santa Clara County Medical Association.
We look forward to continuing these important conversations with our partners and furthering our mission of improving community health, promoting health equity, and diversifying the physician workforce so that accessible health care for all can become a reality.
